Employee Involvement

Fundraising is a great way for staff to participate in something fun and different, whilst still effecting lasting benefits for the workplace including:

  • Increased motivation, morale and staff retention
  • Bridges built and cross-departmental relationships improved
  • Enhanced internal PR, improving corporate image and increasing loyalty amongst staff
  • Opportunities for local and national media opportunities

Staff can take part in a range of fundraising initiatives either organised by the YMCA or by creating their own. Fundraising can often provide a platform for creativity and a focus for each member of staff to challenge themselves beyond their limits

There are a number of ways to enable employees to support the YMCA:
  • Payroll Giving
  • Events and Challenges
  • Match Funding
  • Volunteering
Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving is a flexible scheme that enables each member of staff to make charitable donations before receiving their monthly net salary. This means that they benefit from immediate tax relief on the value of their donation. For example, for a basic rate taxpayer wanting to give a £10 donation, it will only cost £7.80, or just £6 for higher rate taxpayers.

Once a company sets up a payroll giving scheme there is no obligation for staff to donate to a particular charity.

Companies of fewer than 500 employees that set up a Payroll Giving scheme before December 2006 are entitled to a £500 grant to offset the costs of setting up the scheme.

Events and Challenges

Fundraising events and challenges are a great way of bringing people together. Effective team building is often a tough hurdle for companies to overcome, but the common purpose of helping others can really help to unite everyone whether they are supporting a colleague running the marathon, or horse riding in Mongolia.

Match Funding

Matching amounts raised by employees is a great incentive for people to give their fundraising efforts their all. Match funding also demonstrates your company's commitment to the community and readiness to listen and act upon your employee's wishes.

Volunteering

There are a number of volunteering opportunities across the YMCA, including citizenship and community-building activities and mentoring or training young people. For more information see the Volunteering and Volunteering Opportunities pages.
