Youth Inclusion Support Panels - Cambridge

Youth Inclusion and Support Panel (YISP)

Cambridge

Youth Inclusion and Support Panels (YISP) are prevention projects working with 5-13 year old young people at risk of anti social behaviour, offending or school/social exclusion.

A team of staff, in partnership with primary and secondary schools, families, and like-minded organisations work to prevent and reduce their involvement in crime by tackling holistically the root causes of all aspects of the young persons needs – whether they be psychological, physical or social.

Individual and group work, both within and outside the school setting, is designed to meet the needs of the young people.  We work with other agencies (in multi-agency forums and panels) to develop support plans for the best outcomes for young people and their families.

We run this project in Cambridge and Wisbech.

In the year 2008-09 the Cambridge and Wisbech YISPs worked with over 210 young people and over 100 parents.

Activities

In Cambridge some of the specific projects we have run have included:

  • YMCA 1-2-1 gym sessions
  • Football training
  • Cooking for the whole family
  • Girls groups
  • Fire service sessions.

One of the parents said this:

“You have done great job with my son, he is like changed person now, much more positive and well behaved”

And one of the young people said this:

"Before I came to the YISP I used to thump people a lot. Now I talk to them. It’s much better like that"
