CYQ Certificate in Studio Resistance Training, Level 2

"Condition, tone and sculpt!"

This course is for qualified Fitness Instructors who wish to develop their range of teaching skills to include studio-based free weight training set to music.  It meets the need for specialised training in this area whilst giving the instructor the freedom to design a class appropriate to their participants’ and fitness centre’s needs. On completion of the training module, successful students will be qualified to set up their own classes or programmes within fitness centres.

TARGET CANDIDATES

This course is designed for:

  • Fitness Instructors who are seeking to develop their qualifications
  • Those who are already working as Studio Resistance Instructors but who lack a recognised qualification
PREREQUISITES
Candidates must be aged 16 or over and already hold:
  • Level 2 Certificate in Gym-based or Exercise to Music Instruction or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Exercise & Fitness Knowledge
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Online course consists of the theoretical elements of the following subjects:
  • Principles of fitness and principles of resistance training
  • Free weights and body weight exercises and technique
  • Use and legalities of music
  • Class structure
  • Guidelines to teaching
  • Setting up classes
  • Health and safety considerations
The course includes One Practical Training Day and One Assessment Day held at the YMCA in Cambridge on the dates listed below.
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
Assessment is conducted at the YMCA in Cambridge and is in three parts:
  • Plan and prepare a Studio Resistance Training exercise session
  • Instruct a Studio Resistance Training exercise session
    • Note: you will be required to bring two volunteers with you to take part in the exercise session 
  • Evaluate the practical session and develop personal coaching practice

COURSE 1: SRT/03/10

27 February & 6 March 2010: Assessment 6 March 2010

COURSE 2: SRT/10/10

9 & 16 October 2010: Assessment 16 October 2010

 

 

Prerequisites

Any of the following qualifications are essential pre-requisites to this course. You must hold a current (dated within the past three years) certificate or have maintained Continued Professional Development in these areas.
